San Jacinto College Foundation receives $40,000 donation from Brookstone
PASADENA, Texas — The San Jacinto College Foundation accepted a $40,000 donation from Houston-based construction company Brookstone at the College’s Board of Trustees meeting Monday evening, May 3, 2021.
The donation will support the Promise @ San Jac program, which provides last-dollar funding for local high school graduates so they can attend San Jacinto College without any out-of-pocket expenses.
“We’re thrilled to provide the financial boost for such an important program,” said Steve Dishman, Brookstone President and CEO. “We’ve partnered with San Jacinto College on several past and present projects and this was a wonderful opportunity to lend support to an initiative aimed at making a very tangible impact on students’ abilities to attend college and achieve their educational goals.”
Launched in 2020, the Promise @ San Jac program partners with three area high schools within the Pasadena Independent School District—Dobie, Sam Rayburn, and South Houston—to provide a pathway for graduating seniors to attend the College with their tuition covered, and to be able to graduate without student debt.
“The Promise program provides critical resources for students who typically don’t consider a college education an option,” said Teri Crawford, Executive Director of the San Jacinto College Foundation. “Generous donations like this one are helping to fund this exciting program as we continue our mission of helping students succeed in earning their higher education credentials.”
The program’s first cohort of nearly 500 students just completed their first year at San Jac, and the enrollment process is currently underway for the program’s second cohort, which will begin this fall.
